Server 2008r2 error 8007000d when installing any updates

getting error 8007000d when installing any updates on server 2008r2. I have tried the MS updates readiness tool but still get the error. After searching someone with Win7 fixed the issue by renaming the Softwaredistribution folder in the windows folder and re-running the updates, but I was not sure about doing this on a server.

 

Any ideas?

Assuming it's nothing major on the server there shouldn't be a problem doing that.

 

Just disable the Windows Update service first All it does is re-pull the updates down, rather than using a cached local database.

 

In regards to the update readiness did you check the logs? %windir%\logs\cbs\checksur.log

Just checked the log and it says No errors detected.

 

Will rename the folder.

Must be something else as I renamed the folder but it gives the same error when I start to install the updates.

What's the settings under: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate

Yep Same code.

 

I don't have WindowsUpdate listed in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\

Deffo nothing set? :s In policies not normal Microsoft one.

 

Where is this server supposed to be updating from then? As that's where it should be set to tell it WSUS locations etc

Updates are just from Microsoft as its a very very small primary. Windows update is listing all available updates (12 or so) it then starts to download them and bombs out after a minute with the error.
