Firefox Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 OK so I've finally bitten the bullet and upgraded my KMS server from 2008 R2 to Windows 2012 R2. Following the upgrade nothing will now license and I am being told that the Key is invalid I am aware of a patch that is needed for Windows 2012 (KB2885698), but I'm told "The update is not applicable to your computer". I'm assuming there is a different patch required for the R2 version of 2012? and wondered if anyone knew what that was? thanks
SHimmer45 Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 if you have "upgraded" from 2008R2 to 2012R2 you should not need to patch the OS to activate. id expect you need to install your KMS host key for 2012R2 as it might still be trying to use the existing one from 2008r2 which is going to be grumbling
computer_expert Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 (edited) Have you installed the 2012 R2 KMS host key from VLSC portal? edit - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3058168 should do the job (edit 2 - this is if you want to activate windows 10 clients) Edited October 8, 2015 by computer_expert 1
Firefox Posted October 8, 2015 Author Posted October 8, 2015 (edited) Yep I will want to activate Windows 10 so will certainly need that - thanks I'm struggling to find the 2012 Host key (My VLC is a mess) what's the Product Name listed as? EDIT: After applying the above update it now lets me install the Windows Srv 2012R2 DataCtr/Std KMS for Windows 10 key still won't activate however Edited October 8, 2015 by Firefox
SHimmer45 Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 have you checked your activation count, might be that it has reset with the change in OS / KMS host key 1
Firefox Posted October 8, 2015 Author Posted October 8, 2015 (edited) Yeah the count went back up pretty quickly.....I think I have it all working except Office 2010 now. From memory even on 2008 R2 I have to run a separate update to get office working, I'll see if I can find one for 2012 R2 EDIT: right I found the Office Pack for 2012 R2 and it all installed successfully....now I only get a count error when activating, so I'm happy that'll sort itself out Thanks guys Edited October 8, 2015 by Firefox
