Zezima Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Hello all! Last year I looked into how to create a monitoring system for chromebooks. This was using Google extensions which is able to record the screen. And also using webRTC to send the data to the "master" chromebook. I didn't get very far and struggled to understand development of google extensions. I managed to record my screen and display it in a 2nd window - but never udnerstood any of it. Once my workload dies down I want to look into making this again, but figure I may as well plan/resarch it all first as I didn't do much resarch last time. Ideally, id like to have a system created which can then be shared with other schools. I think the transfering of data from the clients to the master can be done without a server... with webRTC I believe you can send the data directly to the master which makes set-up and maintenance a lot eaiser. So, im jsut wondering if anyone can give me advice on what languages I could use to create this and also how that would be done? so, what type of goole extension would I need and how do I actually send data over webrtc? or anything would help! Thanks
NokiX Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 It sounds like a good plan however I believe Impero may have done something like this already forcing the user to authenticate before using the internet. I'm not sure if it's a live feature yet but if your able to create this as a standalone product it would be very useful for anyone who has networks which only use chromebooks.
CyberNerd Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 I'm not sure what you would gain from this. (Almost) all the work is online and it is easy to force students to connect via an authenticated proxy. The proxy records usernames and sites visited. A copy of word processed and email work is stored in Vault. What additional information will you get from screenshots ?

Yeah, i like the look of the solutions but I feel like its always way too much that comes with them. but im juist going for a simple standalone system, which essentials takes a picture of the screen adn sends it to the "master" every few seconds. We are already using monitoring systems on our PCs and Macs and use google for digital classroom stuff. Im gonna take up a trial though with impereo, it seems worth looking into. - - - Updated - - - I'm not sure what you would gain from this. So the teacher can sit at the front of the room and see what is on their screens without walking round the room... Edited October 7, 2015 by Zezima 1
