Desktop Redirect

Hi all,

 

I have setup desktop redirect on our school PCs, I just want a couple of icons Chrome and shortcut to their user drive, but I am getting program icons popup when I allow icons onto the desktop.

 

I have set this up through GPO and the desktops are redirected to the same place. I want the students desktops to be locked down so that they cannot add icons to it.

 

Any help would be appreciated?

Our users' desktops redirect to a hidden folder on the C:\ drive [Read only to users] The icons in that folder are copied down to the workstation each time the station starts up. Any changes to the icons are made by adding or removing icons in the source folder on the server [again hidden from users and also read only]

 

Students, admin staff, technicians, and exam users all have their own desktop folders that are copied down each time the station starts. If there is an icon in the folder for a program that is not installed that icon is deleted and the users do not see it.

Hi. That might be a bit tricky.

 

1. This network was put together by our LEA and some of the scripts and they include a copyright declaration that they may only copied "...with the explicit permission of the copyright owner..."

2. There are several scripts involved in this process. They are linked in a quite complex manner that I haven't really investigated since the network was set up: If it works then leave it alone.

 

I am sure that there will be other Edugeek users who have set up their own networks with scripts like this more able to share information with you.

You Could create a Group Policy Preference Item under Computer Configuration\Preferences\Windows Settings\Files

 

Add a Create action, for the source point to your network share and destination to C:\redirected Folder name

 

We just add extra create actions for each icon we need, which gives the capability of item level targeting each to a specific group if need be.

 

Then just setup redirection to this same folder.
