The Job

Calibre is looking for an experienced Platform Engineer who will be jointly responsible as part of a team for the day to day running of our Education clients Systems & Platforms (Desktop, Application, Server, and Network) as part of a managed service. A good knowledge of providing Systems Administration will be required as well as a sound understanding of Microsoft Servers & Active Directory, Virtualisation (Hyper-V or VMware), Veeam, & BYOD implementation / management. Some Cisco knowledge would be advantageous. The role involves some remote first & second line support as well travel to our school sites currently based in the North East.

 

Job Description

Working as part of the Education team predominantly, you will be responsible to the IT Director.

This is a 12 month initial fixed term contract leading to a possible full term, permanent contract. Your time will be spread between our NE schools, supporting their day-to-day technical needs and helping them to embrace innovative technologies from Google, Apple, Cisco and Microsoft. The role will require travel to attend team meetings and provide additional support at other sites. The role is very autonomous and diverse with a focus on providing technical problem solving network management, building strong relationships with the School leadership and teaching staff & ensuring contractual compliance against SLAs.

This is a varied IT support role in a rewarding environment in a sector that is undergoing radical transformation in how they use their IT. If you’re an ambitious IT Support Engineer with broad technical and problem solving skills, a great communicator with a proactive, can-do attitude then you will be very suited to this role.

 

Requirements and Skills

 

IT support & implementation experience including Microsoft Server 2008/2012/XP/7/8, AD, Group policies, DNS, DHCP, network infrastructure, VMware, Veeam, Citrix, CC4, switches, ideally within a customer-focused environment.

Should ideally have (or be working towards) Microsoft MCSE.

Ability to manage and control all technical aspects of the installation, configuration, operation, maintenance, and development of the School’s ICT hardware, software and network infrastructure including:

Servers (curriculum, administration, print and intranet) 
Internet access, cache, filter and router 
Administration of wired and wireless network devices 
Network & data security monitoring.
System performance monitoring
Network infrastructure, DHCP, DNS, subnets, VPNs 
Management information system – SIMS/FMS 
Workstations and mobile devices 
Software support & maintenance 
Cabling to network devices 
Networked printing devices 
Interactive whiteboards and projectors 
Email system 
School Virtual Learning Environment

Support / maintain effective backup and disaster recovery strategy to ensure against loss of data through error, abuse, malfunction or disaster.

Resolve ICT problems reported by staff, referring to external support organisations where necessary and keeping staff informed of progress with solutions.

Strong problem solving abilities

Excellent communication, customer handling and inter-personal skills.

Demonstrable experience in planning, organising and prioritising tasks.

Target focused

Proactive and ability to adapt quickly to a developing type of service delivery

Flexibility to travel to visit other schools / clients across the UK when required.

DBS Certificate within the last 12 months or salary contribution towards clearance within first 3 months of employments prior to attending school sites.

Highly organised with attention to detail.

A strong desire to understand & troubleshoot root causes of ICT problems in schools.

Ability to work well under pressure in a demanding environment.

Able to teach / supervise junior ICT staff members.

Full / Clean Driving License & own travel.

Ability to explain complex technical issues to Senior Leadership teams in an easy-to-understand manner.

 

Preferable but not essential

 

Prior school ICT support experience as a senior technician or a ‘hands-on’ network / systems manager may be useful, but isn’t essential.

Your Base

Full-time based at one of our Main Client Sites – Sunderland.

Working hours of 08.30 – 16.30*

Although focusing initially in the North, you will be required to travel to new & existing customers UK wide.

*Must be willing to work flexible hours to include some evenings and weekends when necessary to maintain systems and deliver new functionality
