MyMaths, LinguaScope etc -> Content recommendations

Dear all,

 

We are a secondary and we currently have an non-unified approach to curricular software.

 

A department will have found some software with pre-populated content, has 'everything they need' and want to buy it. I doubt they have researched much. Each student requires a login.

Department two comes along, says the same thing but is a completely different software. Each student requires a login.

 

For Maths alone, they have Pearson Active Learn, Collins Connect and MyMaths. Why these platforms don't support O365 or GAFE integration is another discussion however, my question is:

 

Does anyone have any recommendations about a content resource that has a good collection of resources for all departments?

This is one of my biggest problems with this as well. Clickview if you have used them have is one of the only providers out there that use AD federated services. Why is it that this set up is so few and far between, Surly the days of CSV files are gone now that we can use access tokens from just about anywhere! I don't teach so will pick my words carefully and say that in my mind some of this software should be far better than it is, so instead of these companies just taking the money it may be an idea if they used it to one update and two intergrate.

This same issue vexes me greatly! I love the way the companies sales reps do the "oh, it's very easy for your IT dept to just upload a CSV once a year" (hello Kerboodle, yes I am talking about you). Right, because with 2000 students, there is no turnover, no one starts in the year, no one leaves, no one changes tutor groups. It drives me potty.

 

As a slight aside - this is the kind of content that should have been delivered as scorn and integrated into our VLE's. VL .. say what? Oh - those old failures. I wonder what became of them ...

Thanks guys - the specific software I am trying to find is for A-Level science (to avoid using Kerboodle!!) - any recommendations for that specifically?

 

P.S. I think VLE's are still good. They were never going to reach the utopia of an all encompassing MLE and I think a lot of vendors went down the 'content creation' route - turning teachers into VLE administrators. We use Schoology, all subjects are grouped and we are heading down a very positive route of teachers becoming more efficient with sharing workloads/resources/good practice

Hopefully not hijacking - I'm trying to deal with exactly this issue in our infant school. I don't have anything against the VLE - except that it's expensive and no one really uses it. We also have a bunch of other resources which are being dealt with subject by subject and are also not that well used. I'd be delighted to have something that makes good use of the hardware. Does anyone have opinions on: Oddizzi (Primary Geography), Espresso (Cross curricular), Education City (Cross Curricular) or recommendations by subject for phonics, maths, science, history or geography?
