[sims] Academic year

Quite urgent this one.

 

We've got a new SIMS lady this year, whether this is actually the problem i don't know but i need to be sure...

 

For some reason our VLE and mintclass information isn't being picked up by the two different sims sync programs, one can only assume that it's a sims problem seeing as it's two different systems seeing an issue so i've just gone in and had a look. Now let me start by saying I'm no sims admin, i just manage the software side of things....but i went int o Tools > academic management > set academic year and mine said 2013/14 was the current one :| i phoned someone and they said theirs was showing as 14/15 as current.

 

Shouldn't this be showing 15/16 for everyone?!

Academic Year 2015/2016 - Start 01/09 - End 30/08 - Current

 

But I "guess" they could have named it wrongly etc? As I guess they pick the names? (Assuming here)

Yep so we have that, but in checking it shows different things for different users.

 

For me the one with "current" next to it was 2013/14, for someone else it said 14/15....just logged in as an old test user and it said 08/09! Is there a setting somewhere to force this to 15/16 for everyone? or is it something people have already been free to change as they wish to go back to previous years? (in other words, is it not a central setting but a user specific one?)

This is a user specific setting and is changed in Tools>Academic Management>Set Academic Year

It should default to the current one, but if it has been manually changed I believe it will stay that way until its changed back.

Ok, maybe that's the issue we're seeing then and not the actual cause of things not syncing from sims. Out of curiosity though is there a specific section where i can see what the current active academic year is as a whole? Presumably this is all automated and won't actually be the problem though, as they've obviously created this academic year as i can see all the dates etc defined.

 

Possibly back to the drawing board on finding out why the VLE and mintclass aren't syncing i guess

The default academic year is the one on which todays date exists - as today is the 2nd Sept it will be likely be Academic Year 2015-16, if you are like most schools and run Sept to Aug.

The start and end dates of the academic year are defined when it is first set up - this is usually done quite early in the preceding school year, as it is required for Options and Timetabling.

Take it whatever machine runs the sync has SIMS updated on? As we've had that issue before if the client is old
