Hi, I may be being a bit dim here but I'm really struggling with an issue

 

We have an number of Vlan's here and Vlan 8 is our vlan for our wireless network xx.xx.38.x this range is almost out of addresses, I can't extend the to scope to xx.xx.39.x addresses as this is being used by another vlan, the only range I can use is xx.xx.37.x which I've added as a second scope in dhcp.

 

My problem is I can't work out how to route this through our switches, I've tried to change the routing table to allow xx.xx.37.x address to route through to xx.xx.38.1 but it doesn't like this. If I route it through and interface on the master switch to xx.xx.37.1 that's fine but I need to get from here through to the server which is xx.xx.38.2 (with the previously mentioned dchp scope(s))

 

Any ideas??

What wireless system do you use? Some you can assign multiple VLANS to an SSID. You could just set them up as 2 separate VLANS and let the wireless sort the vlan assignment out.

 

The route settings your playing with will not help for this.

How have you changed the routing table to allow x.x.37.x route to x.x.38.x?

 

Do you have ACLs set up between the VLANs?

 

Have you defined a separate vlan for x.x.37.x?

This shouldn't be required. This will be setup by default.

That's what I was thinking iproute 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 x.x.x.x should take care of it as long as there are no ACLs.

That doesn't do it either. That is setting the gateway of last resort. Usually to an "upstream" router, firewall, etc. usually used to access the internet. It won't have any impact on the routing between vlans on device itself. As the vlans are "directly connected" the switch will not use any static or dynamic routes as the administrative distance of a directly connected interface is 0. Static routes are 1. The lowest wins so it ignores any other routes leaned (unless someone changes things).
