Google Cloud Print - Intermittent printer mapping

Google!!!! Agghhhh!

 

Now that I've got that off my chest....is anyone else struggling to get Google Cloud Print to work reliably when used in an 'Enterprise' environment?

 

I'm having real problems with the printers intermittently not offering themselves as print destinations for my users on their ChromeBooks. Its random. One time they'll be mapped and listed for the users to access (and they work), another time they are simply not even listed as print targets. This happens on both the same logon instance and different logon instances, if the user logons off and on.

 

I have shared 2 printers, one each for colour and mono printing. Both printers have our admin@ account set as Owners. I have then created Year group Groups in the Google Admin Console which are populated with the student users of that year group as members AND the Admin@ user as the Owner and these are added to both printers with access set to Print.

 

We're also using a product called PrinterOn which (amongst other things) links our users Google accounts to their Follow-You printing account. While open minded, I currently don't think the problem is with this side of the printing system, as PrinterOn has nothing to do with making the printer appear on the users ChromeBook session.

 

Google are helpful, but I just get the impression that Google Cloud Print is not yet ready for Prime Time, certainly in large, more complex environments.

 

Anyone else had this issue?
