[ms office - 2013] Word 2013 global template error when opening Documents

Just had an email from a teacher saying whenever they try to open a Word document it won't open and then they get lots of dialogue messages about 'changing the global template'. After that it seems to crash.

 

I can find lots of help on Google about changing the global template when saving but nothing about when opening a doc.

 

Any advice.
