Online Safety within new Ofsted Inspection Framework

You may find the following links helpful to share with Headteachers, Senior Leadership Teams, Governing Bodies etc regarding online safety within the new Ofsted Common Inspection Framework, safeguarding briefing and supplementary handbooks for specific settings.

Also the SWGfL and Ofsted have published an infographic last week following a recent survey into online safety practice across all HMI-led inspections during March 2015. Not having had chance to read them yet, do they cover extremism/British Values wothin an online context? There has been lengthy debate on here about what is actually required with regard to filtering and reporting to SLT and Governors to satisfy Ofsted

Radicalisation and extremism is highlighted throughout all of the documents (along with CSE, FGM, Sexting etc.) but there are no specific examples of what practice they expect/want to see with regards to filtering other than schools and settings are expected to be able to comply with and demonstrate that they comply with statutory requirements and legislation.

 

The responsbility for ensuring all of this is in place is clearly identified to be that of school/setting leaders.

That's what I was afraid of... "schools are responsible, but we're not going to tell you what we expect to see as evidence of you carrying out your duty"

 

You just get the feeling that first time you find oit that you're not doing enough is when the inspector calls... and with no guidance for the inspectors it will be luck of the draw for schools.
