Systems Administrator - London/Bath - £30-40k

A work colleague thought this job based in Bath might be of interest to me. Sadly, I'm limited to MS a little bit of Mac and have loaded Linux on a couple of computers in the past few years.

However, thinking of some of the skilled folk on here it might be right up someones street. Salary £30 - £40K and it was put to me that it's mostly working online from home with about one day a week in the Office, it says London in the advert but I'm pretty sure it's Bath.

Systems Administrator

Experience delivering strategic solutions to telecoms operators worldwide. We are looking for an experienced Linux systems administrator to work full-time within an international software development environment. The successful candidate will have experience in building, operating, managing and troubleshooting both physical and virtual Linux servers. The opportunity is within an experienced and well established support team. Communication skills are essential to work with both end users and other members of the team. The successful candidate will be expected to take the lead role on projects, and in addition contribute as a member of the team to other projects.

The role requires active participation in 24x7 On-Call rotation to provide after business hours support, and regular travel to our office in London.

 

Essential Skills:

Proven RedHat Linux administrative experience including knowledge of the following:

Installation and deployment, making use of tools such as cobbler and kickstart

Server management, covering aspects such as package management with particular attention to repository management and dependency resolutions

High availability to include clustering, iscsi, file systems (gfs, lvm, nfs, etc.) and advancing routing (vlans, multiple interfaces, interface routing)

Strong troubleshooting skills covering all aspects of the Linux environment including but not restricted to memory management, kernel configuration and filesystem limits

Strong scripting skills bash essential, ruby and perl are desirable.

Good understanding of network concepts to include Cisco ios, VPNs, firewalls, VLANs, Layer2 and Layer3 routing, routing protocols including BGP and OSPF

Experience of backup systems bare metal and file level concepts.

Good understanding of NIS/YP environment, including configuration and troubleshooting.

 

Highly Desirable skills:

Other operating systems, including windows, Solaris, HP-UX

Virtualisation concepts and knowledge of technologies VMWare, HyperV

Configuration management tools such as puppet or chef

System and network monitoring and alerting tools such as xymon, cacti, smokeping, graphite, grafana, icinga, nagios

Database experience including Oracle and MySQL

Installation and management of change management tools, GIT preferred

Mail and webserver implementation and troubleshooting including apache, sendmail and postfix

Start date: Immediate

Role: Full-time and Permanent

Sure, is. They had only one applicant by the closing date. My guess is that the applicant didn't meet the pretty exacting skill set.

 

It sounds an absolute peach of a job for whoever does get it.

 

I wish I had more knowledge of Linux and at least an understanding of the various programming languages. If I did I'd be knocking on their door toot sweet.
