mjgreen81 Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 (edited) Hi all, I am looking for a very simple to use, web based AD account management tool which can be used by certain users (i.e. teachers) to unlock accounts/reset passwords for other users (i.e. pupils). I have come across several small applications which will probably do the job, but I am really looking for something web based if possible. I have also found several self-service tools, but I don't really want to provide the self-service option. I would like it to be as simple to use as possible, doesn't display to many options (basically I just want the ablity to select/search for the user, reset password and unlock account). Does anyone have any suggestions? Many thanks! Edited June 26, 2015 by mjgreen81
GRitchie Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Does it NEED to be web based? If it's for staff, could you not just deploy an .exe to their desktops?
mjgreen81 Posted July 1, 2015 Author Posted July 1, 2015 I guess it doesnt have to be web based, but I like the idea so that we dont have to faff with any installs etc and everything is centralised. It also makes things easier with regards to mobile devices etc if that is possibly an option. Nowadays I just presumed a web based option would be readily available.
GRitchie Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 For a web based it's a bit more tricky. Plus it's a bit riskier if it's not locked down. But I've found a couple of options? Web Based: https://www.nervepoint.com/en/ - bit more advanced but does the job it seems. My favourite application: Cjwdev | AD Account Reset Tool I really like the CJWDev Tools - most of them come in VERY useful! 2
mjgreen81 Posted July 2, 2015 Author Posted July 2, 2015 Thank you, hopefully I will get some time today to have a look at your suggestions. Much appreciated
GRitchie Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 Not a problem! Just remember to lock down the OU's you're allowing the staff member to change. Otherwise, if they can reset other staff passwords it can cause a lot of bother... Remember to thank if it was useful! :-)
GeekyPete Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 I like the AD Account reset tool. Do you know what the reset button does? There's scant little documentation. For a web based it's a bit more tricky. GRitchie Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 The reset button acts as the 'submit' button - badly labelled IMHO
GeekyPete Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 Doh! Ofc... I thought it might have been like a Profile reset on RM Networks...
