CapnPugwash Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Hi, I'm trying to upgrade Exchange 2010 SP1 to SP3, it fails throwing this error: "Couldn't remove product with code 6574fdc2-40fc-405a-9554-22d1ce15686b. Fatal error during installation. Error code is 1603" I've had a look on the web and not read anything conclusive... Anyone else experienced this? It's nothing to do with SP3 specifically... some people got the same error installing SP1
CapnPugwash Posted June 25, 2015 Author Posted June 25, 2015 Eek. And then two minutes later I find this suggestion: 1. Run this from a command prompt: MsiExec.exe /X {6574fdc2-40fc-405a-9554-22d1ce15686b} to remove the Search Indexer 2. Reboot 3. Try running the Service pack again I had actually run MsiExec.exe /X {6574fdc2-40fc-405a-9554-22d1ce15686b} but I hadn't rebooted the machine...

CapnPugwash Posted July 3, 2015 Author Posted July 3, 2015 Take a look at this: https://edsonserranojr.wordpress.com/tag/exchange-2010/ Thanks . I managed to sort it in the end, took me slightly longer than expected but wasn't that big a headache.
CapnPugwash Posted July 6, 2015 Author Posted July 6, 2015 Great, what was the fix? Hi, The error was: "Couldn't remove product with code 6574fdc2-40fc-405a-9554-22d1ce15686b. Fatal error during installation. Error code is 1603" To fix it I ran : MsiExec.exe /X {6574fdc2-40fc-405a-9554-22d1ce15686b} (to remove the Search Indexer) Rebooted the machine & installed the SP , then installed the latest roll up. All went surprisingly well!
