Paid_Peanuts Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 Does anyone know if the Dell MD1400 series DAS supports 3rd party drives, mainly SSD from the likes of Intel or Samsung?
zag Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 I think it does yes, see the specs here Dell Storage MD1400 and MD1420 12Gb SAS Direct-Attached Storage | Dell UK
Paid_Peanuts Posted June 24, 2015 Author Posted June 24, 2015 (edited) Was thinking potentially a MD1400 with 12 SSD - something like the Samsung 960GB 845DC EVO 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Drive Mfr#: MZ-7GE960EW After Raid 6 should give something like 9TB of very fast storage. Anyone got any ideas on this principal? Anyone do anything similar? Edited June 24, 2015 by Paid_Peanuts
zag Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 (edited) I've got 4 1tb Samsung 840s in a NAS at home, the thing absolutely flies! https://zag4me.wordpress.com/2015/06/10/review-of-the-qnap-453s-pro-ssd-nas/ Personally now intel have brought out some bigger drives i'd look at them. The samsungs had firmware problems with older data. Edited June 24, 2015 by zag
Paid_Peanuts Posted June 24, 2015 Author Posted June 24, 2015 I've always been a fan of both Samsung and Intel SSD. I think in a server environment i would plump for something like the 800GB Intel DC S3510 Series 2.5" SSD, SATA III - 6Gb/s, AHCI, MLC SET NAND, 500MB/s Read, 460MB/s Write over a model like the 850 Pro just in case of reasons like power failure.
