anyone come across this problem - I've had to re-install Ranger Account Manager but it's getting stuck when trying to add a new DNS service record. I think this is a known problem as its in the RM knowledge library but as the school doesn't have a support contrct with RM then I cant access the details of how to resolve this - has anyone else had this problem and does anyone know how to resolve it?

thanks

Not sure if this helps but I seem to remember we had to manually add a DNS entry for an install of Ranger 8 - entry was 'RangerCentral' it's an Alias in the forward lookup zone and points to the FQDN of your Ranger server. What is the OS of the server?

its win 2008 R2. I can see an entry in the foward lookup zone/servername.local/_tcp - its called _RAM and I've manually created this then tried to install again but am still getting same error unfortunately

Hi

Did you get ram client working in the end as i have the same problem also does it use a special port for the srv entry? We had a company tidy my dns for me and they deleted the entry and could get it to work and tried the same as you.

Many Thanks

Hi

Guys thanks for your help I solved it with a SRV DNS entry. What had happened to me is we created a new PDC and primary DNS server which Ranger wasn't installed on, so when I ran RAM v2 on the original server it couldn't resolve properly.

Investigated dns issue....

checked log files on Server - C:\Program Files (x86)\Sentinel Products\Ranger Account Manager\ConfiguratorTrace

found dns log entry from 2010 =

2010-08-18 15:48:34.373, Sentinel.Ranger.RAM.Configurator.DnsAddRecord, Void Apply(), Entered, serviceName_ = _RAM._tcp.st-gregorys.internal, ttl_ = 300000, target_ = ST2.st-gregorys.internal, port_ = 55001

Manually created SRV record & restarted Ranger Account Manager Service on ST2

Ran RAM as administrator = all now seems to be working

Hope this helps anyone with a similar issue.
