Released September 11. Nintendo Direct had Shigeru Miyamoto giving a brief course in level design including how he guides new players through and often makes level 2 and 3 first then turns level 1 into an easy version. :) The game will come with a level design manual.

Also the levels were originally designed on graph paper and tracing paper!

I want this.....

meh tbh dosent look that interesting far more interested in fire emblem fates(just upgraded the micro sd in my 3ds to a 32gb as ive seen reports its over 3gb for one version of the game and there are supposed to be 3 versions), that 3 player Zelda game and starfox from that line up or even Yoshi's woolly world

It looks cool... but not "pay full RRP" cool.

Gonna wait for a massive price drop.

I hate the fact that the download price for Nintendo games never seems to come down (bar the odd sale) and I want to go all digital on games don't want to store carts/disks and boxes etc and have to find them to play

This is the future you chose.

Why anyone would prefer to be locked to buying from a specific place who has literally 0 incentive to lower prices, is beyond me.

The Nintendo Championships showed off the level editor better and really in-depth. There are a ton of new mechanics to the point this is the new Mario title. :)

Example, you can shoot anything out of cannons ranging from coins to Buzzy Beetles. You can also wear shells as helmets, fly Bowser's helicopter whilst wearing Goomba shoes, make any enemy fly or grow huge and share all the levels with friends, so unlimited replayability.

As someone who grew up in the Mario/Sonic era this is a gaming dream come true. :D

Oh and new enemies have been retro-actively added to the older level styles (Thwomps in Mario Bros!) and if you use an Amiibo your player sprite will become a pixelated version of them. So you can have Link running around the Mushroom Kingdom.

fair point but esp on a handheld its much better imo to just have the game installed on it and not need to carry round a bag of carts (not to mention im running out of stoeage space for the damn things) if I want to change games (and you do have some choice you can actually buy download cards from game cheaper than direct download from Nintendo's eshop even though you get it via the eshop only difference is you type in a code from a card rather than your credit card number. Nintendo are worst for this ms at least prices do come down when a games old Nintendo it was released as a £40 game it will always be a £40 game which sucks

We're going to be getting it the kids (we promised them ages ago!), but totally agree on the Nintendo Store prices.

Even their sales only ever seem to bring their titles down to Amazon price levels, and I really wish that the indy developers would get behind the Wii U but Nintendo had messed them around so much in the past (like the large development houses) that I suspect many will just stay away and make games for the larger platforms.

One of the Retro Gamer columnists had a good piece recently where he asked what would the reaction be if you went back 15 years and told everyone that Sega was effectively dead, Ninetndo is an also ran and Sony and Microsoft were ruling the roost. History has proved it's easy to drop the ball in the gaming world and you only have to drop it twice to be in serious trouble.

IMO, with the Wii U Nintendo has already dropped it once. Their new platform, the NX will be released in a period when the XBox One and PS4 are very well established platforms with a large array of games available and will have to be very special indeed to generate the kind of sales they would need to survive in the home gaming market.

There's been lots of information released recently for this title. It's looking increasingly better!

- Levels must be completed by the author before upload to prevent impossible levels from appearing.

- Level difficulty is automatically calculated. If lots of people complete it then it's easy, if lots fail then it's categorized as hard.

- Level upload slots are expected to be restricted to ten initially. Make more popular levels, get more upload slots.

- You can follow your favourite level designers.

- You can use a mixture of mushrooms, wings and your imagination to make your own end bosses with the axe that drops them in the lava. (EG, large Magikoopa!)

- Physics engine! Attach Chain Chomps to a track, remove their post and they dangle helplessly then swing about as they reverse direction on the track.

- You can also make stuff jump from track to track by removing the end square.

- Angry Wigglers can swim underwater, be made huge and make for a cool chase mechanic.

- Lakitu can throw anything from coins and mushrooms to Spineys and Cheep-Cheeps.

- If you tap an Amiibo and use it as a power-up, other players can use that character skin when they play your level without physically needing that Amiibo.

- 30 year anniversary Amiibo grants the Big Mario power-up letting you smash through blocks.

- Amiibo skins have their own custom death, jump and victory sounds. Press Up and you can strike a pose.

- Bullet Bill launchers and Cannons can be attached to enemies' backs.

- Invisible question blocks can be attached to tracks making a mobile hidden target.

- Vines can be attached to tracks making for some interesting mobile gameplay. I expect you can also make them jump tracks.

- Developers are deliberately pushing the angle that chaos tends to unfold during the level design process. They want you to see fun and weird things happen and never be sure just what your bizarre creations will do when you press play!

- 100 Marios mode. You have what is presumed to be 15 randomly picked levels and 100 lives to beat them. 1-Ups add more Marios. A harder variant uses 10 Marios.

- Older Mario themes have had music and enemies back-ported from newer titles. Example: SMB3 Ghost House skin and Music, Thwomps and Bob-Ombs in SMB1.

- Mario theme changes gameplay and some themes do things that can't be done in other themes. SMB1 can't pick up shells, SMB3 can, SMW allows vertical throw and knocks the koopa out of his shell. 3D lets you wall jump and flourish.

- Blocks also change based on theme. Most notably brick blocks becoming spin blocks in SMW.

More details being released watching videos. :)

- Water tiles cannot be added to a ground level yet. No sign if this is going to happen.

- No sign of the "Athletic" music themes.

- Adjustable level time.

- Fast, Medium or Slow scroll speeds.

- You only have access to a primary and secondary world in your level.

- You can build multiple pipes joining you to the secondary world and back, so with clever positioning you can build multiple bonus rooms (or death traps!)

- Thwomps and Bob-Ombs can fly!

- Thwomps can also be attached to moving tracks and fall on the player.

- You can also make Thwomps huge and cut through blocks when they fall. Nasty! So yeah, flying huge Thwomp out of nowhere...

- The level making machine can store 120 non-uploaded levels organised into worlds of 4 levels in length. Build your Mario game and play through your own adventure.

- Nintendo staff refused to comment when asked "Can you acquire Amiibo skins another way instead of buying an Amiibo?" "I am NOT telling you the answer to that!" Hmmm unlocks?

- Amiibo skins only work in the original SMB skin (SMB3, SMBW and 3D replace it with another power-up).

- Question block power-ups are not dynamic so they won't pop out a Mushroom if you are small instead of a fireflower/leaf. (Not sure if this just hasn't been found yet?)

- Unlikely that all power-ups and enemies have been showcased yet, more to come? There is an empty row on the toolbar....

- Place Boos on the floor and they turn into the ones that pop-out of the ground and move back and forth along the floor.

- Levels can be downloaded from the Internet and modified. However, you cannot re-upload downloaded levels to protect the creator's designs.

- Cheep-cheeps can be dunked in lava, set on fire and jump up at Mario whilst burning. They are also persistent so they will turn around and follow you whilst set on fire.

- Cheep-cheeps also jump along the bottom of a level with a little splash sprite to give the illusion of water where the drop is.

Also tagging @X-13 to troll and persuade him to buy. :p

Just reserved mine (well, the kids) on Amazon yesterday. At £33.99 seems reasonable enough for the boxed version.

I just hope it arrives on the day. It's on Prime delivery so fingers crossed :)

I picked up the game with booklet, large Mario Amiibo and pin badges from GAME for £45. Add me so we can share levels! :)

Also they added sound effects which is good in places if used cleverly and sparingly, I predict heavy abuse of the disco effect though! You can add a fail noise to hidden coin blocks too....

Oh GAME....

If you ordered from them, check your account as they have had a terrible time fulfilling the orders. First they had a lorry stolen full of limited edition copies and then their web system screwed up and charged some buyers for five copies of the game. That's a bill of over £200! And now they are saying they cannot fulfil all the orders so some users might not get a copy on time!

Checked my account and fingers crossed, I haven't been over-charged and an E-Mail saying it has shipped.

Day 4. My card still hasn't been charged for a copy of Mario Maker which should have happened on Monday. Getting worried now! At least I wasn't overcharged....if charged at all.

I'll be honest, I haven't a clue if it is arriving or not. I got two E-Mails saying they shipped something last week but it's sitting in a warehouse for release day and an E-Mail saying "Not quite sorry, but we screwed up payments for everyone so go check your account." Now I have seen two debit entries from GAME in my statement followed by a credit entry so that's balanced out to one charge, but nothing to say it's been sent. Whatever they did held up my statement for a week (presumably the bank sorting out the mess for me before it reaches me). So either I get home and find a box waiting for me or nothing at all!

Big patch released today. Checkpoints are being added so players don't have to go from the start in harder levels. Also, question blocks can be given the same behaviour as other Mario games where if you are small you get a mushroom, if you are big you get a power-up (which encourages players not to get hit to abuse invincibility frames or they get no power-up). Official levels from Nintendo staff are also being added along with a staff picks category. :)
