Reboot vSphere host and install new tape drive.

I’m new to vSphere and need to fit a replacement tape drive to a vSphere host. Should I RDP into each virtual server and shut them down or put them in maintenance mode and shut them down from the vSphere client. Then put the host into maintenance mode and reboot it? What are the steps then to get the new drive recognised in the virtual server hosting Backup Exec.

You can shut them down either way, RDP or using the vSphere client. Note, that the latter way will only work if you have VMware Tools running.

 

Then maintenance mode and shut down the host.
