Help with DVD Ripping

Hi feel free to move if I have posted in wrong location.

 

I was just wondering how you rip dvds as I am struggling and have tried using various software such as handbrake.

Makemkv then handbrake for me. That gets me a H264 MP4 file compatible with all my devices

 

This is for home use only and for storing my DVD/blu-Rays on media server.

I shuld point out that whilst format shifitng for person use is now ok in UK law it (AFAIK) still is not for commercial and education use.

Some please correct me on this is I am wrong as I couldn't find any guidence this morning whilst having a look around.

I think you are correct dos_box. Fine for personal at home (now) Although on reality as long as you weren't sharing the nobody would have batted an eye lid at your DVD collection being stored in your computer at home.

Interesting! I hadn't realised that it was now legitimate to decrypt and backup DVD's for personal use. In fact, I was quite shocked to see the official Handbrake site openly linking to a VidelLAN page with the libdvdcss.dll.

It has been for the past year (CDs too).

I don't see why that's shocking. Both Handbrake and VLC are French.

I've always struggled to find a successful way to rip with the forced subtitles. Anyone got any pointers for that?

Just be aware that the law changed back again making it illegal to rip DVDs you own, even for backups:
