RM CC3 Laptops - help!

Hi everyone.

 

Is there such thing as a local admin account for laptops on a cc3 network? Basically I have set up the laptops to appear just like the computers in the school suite. However, the teachers have now decided that they want to take their laptops home over Christmas, and their logons obv dont work when they are not joined to the domain.

 

Just wondering if there is a way of creating a local admin account or if you can tell the laptop to stop looking for authentication against AD.

You can set this up in the Management Console. It's not a local account as such, but it kind of tells the network account to act as a local account. It's quite handy because it does all the synchronising of docs automatically (most of the time haha).

 

I can't remember what this option is without looking, and unfortunately I'm not at a CC3 desktop.

 

If you go into the laptop on the RM MMC, and I think it's something like "priviledged user" - Set that to the person you want.

I'm guessing there's a CC3 policy I don't know about which prevents all local logons - if you could disable this and allow the cached logon details to be used, then they could logon over Christmas using their standard domain details.

Cheers guys. Changed their users to 'advanced staff' for the Christmas period and this seems to have done the trick. Gets them off my back for a bit!!

You can just leave it like that - We always applied our staff as advanced, they got on happy, we were happy not to be hassled.

Cool. I can't see much difference between staff and advanced staff anyway. Must just be some group policy differences I'm guessing.

Yeah, I don't think there is much difference - remember to set up synchronisation before they do any work at home - other wise things can get messy!

CC3 laptops should work like this once they have logged into domain once then after that a user can login into computer using domain login details and not need to be connected.

 

so if got user called staff1 you connect to network and login into staff1.

 

Then next time working offline user can login into staff1 as normal and work in offline mode.
