ICT_GUY Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 Shared apple ID on shared devices please advise. Info > I am almost ready to deploy ipads. We have 50, 14 for staff and the rest for kids. They will be shared. They will be locked down with only approved apps installed and they will only be updated by me. (Including the staff ones). SMT want the teacher ipads to be tools and not used as a personal device. I am aware of the changes rumored to be coming next year in regards to Apple ID's and Education ipads. This should help. I have been told there are pros and cons for shared apple ID's on ipads. I don't know which way to go. All advice welcomed.
Brimstone Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 if you are using Apple Configurator to manage them you won't need Apple ID's on each iPad. If you are using an MDM to manage them you will require a unique Apple ID per device, this is despite what other people will tell on here. Shared Apple ID' s across iPads are not supported by Apple and should not be used as this deployment model will lead to problems with app ownership and management of them further down the line. There are no pros or cons for shared Apple ID's. It is not a supported model. Period. Your supplier ( I would presume you bought these from an Apple education reseller and not xxx ICT supplies) would have the ability to get you white listed by Apple for you create the Apple ID's 1
ICT_GUY Posted June 8, 2015 Author Posted June 8, 2015 Thank you. Yes we did, and I had heard about the white listing. Is there an idiots guide to creating apple ID's for education? Best practice guide or some such? It might be stupid question but I take it you have to create an email address for every ipad as well?
jonnykewell1 Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 This post might help you. I referred to it a few months back asking some similar questions. http://www.edugeek.net/forums/netbooks-pda-phones/150294-meraki-vpp-redistributing-apps.html I recently had to setup 15 ipads each with their own itunes account. I manage them using Meraki and push apps out this way too. 1
Alis_Klar Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 (edited) Seems like Apple have been listening to ur feedback! The madness of invididual Apple ID's for iPads using Managed distribution of apps is over (as of iOS 9 at least). It was announced at WWDC 2015. WWDC: What's New in Managing Apple Devices? Quite a lot! | Enterprise iOS https://developer.apple.com/videos/wwdc/2015/?id=301 Edited June 15, 2015 by Alis_Klar
