VSS Woes on one blasted server

Afternoon All,

 

So one of our last 2003 servers putting up an epic fight in refusing to backup. Constantly fails trying to create VSS snapshot etc.

 

After reading dozens of "fixes" I think I've tried most logical things apart from a sledgehammer but wondering if I've missed anything.

 

As it currently stands of 3 drives on the server D/E work fine, but C refuses to snapshot. Constantly failing on 12310 and 12298. (Even for a manual creation)

 

Volume Shadow Copy Service error: The I/O writes cannot be held during the shadow copy creation period on volume \\?\Volume{a548b070-ac7f-11d9-8fb8-806e6f6e6963}\. I've put all the VSS rollups on I can find, re-registered services, moved the snapshots to another volume. Writers show no errors, re-made shadowstorage, providers seem happy, re-installed HyperV integration.

 

What am I missing

According to this webpage, the first error suggests that there is a lot of I/O activity on the C: disk. This in turn keeps VSS from being able to run. They reference this MS Technet page that attempts to help you troubleshoot the VSS error.
