ataylor Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 I55 is coming up this August, will there be any fellow Edugeekers there? For those of you that Don't know what Insomnia LAN is - Insomnia55 • The UK's Biggest Gaming Festival : Multiplay Insomnia Gaming Festival
Garacesh Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Oooh there's a DOTA 2 LAN tournament..? Might have to look into the BYOC tickets.. Problem will be getting there, as I don't drive..
Arreks Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Too far away and I'd end up getting thoroughly bored of watching people play mobas/fps all day. Going to MCM though, which kinda counts as gaming I guess?..
ataylor Posted May 21, 2015 Author Posted May 21, 2015 Oooh there's a DOTA 2 LAN tournament..? Might have to look into the BYOC tickets.. Problem will be getting there, as I don't drive.. Where you driving in from? Too far away and I'd end up getting thoroughly bored of watching people play mobas/fps all day. Going to MCM though, which kinda counts as gaming I guess?.. It doesn't get boring if you bring your own computer Plus there is so much to do around the Venue, I barely even used my computer last time.
Garacesh Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Where you driving in from? Nowhere. 'Cause I don't drive ;D Manchester-area. I don't know if I'd be okay leaving my PC unattended (unattended by me) whilst I wandered around doing other stuff, though..
ataylor Posted May 21, 2015 Author Posted May 21, 2015 Ah, I'm over on the other side (near Lincoln) Both your monitor and PC will have security tags so don't worry too much about them. (All monitors and computers get checked by security when leaving/entering the venue) We usualy hide our keyboards and mice away as they are easy to steal. We also to go as a large group though there tends to always be someone keeping an eye on our stuff. Some people get them kensington locks to secure their equipment too.
Garacesh Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Hm.. Yeah, could always bring a bag/rucksack/etc and keep mouse, keyboard and headphones in there when not gaming.. What happens if some absolute buffoon is pratting around and damages my rig?
ataylor Posted May 21, 2015 Author Posted May 21, 2015 (edited) Not sure to be honest, I don't think you are insured on it. I guess you could hold them liable. I've never had any problems my self, but I accept the risk of taking my equipment to a LAN. Everyone in the gaming hall has brought their own rig so most people their have respect for other peoples equipment. They also don't allow day visitors into the gaming hall for security reasons. Garacesh Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Well, that's reasonable I guess. I s'pose I have to finish rebuilding my rig first (Looking at about £650 to spend*, £100 on the case, ~£100 on a H100, ~£450 on a GTX 980TI**) but yeah, I think I might look into getting tickets if I can figure out transport.. I don't quite fancy a train journey lugging my tower and 4k screen around xD * I also want to spend ~£100 on a fully modular power supply and then however much it costs to individually braid my cables.. But that's an aesthetic upgrade and will probably come later on down the line. ** Rumoured to be launched at the end of the month for around $650-$699, which translates to about £450
LincolnE Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Going to MCM though, which kinda counts as gaming I guess?.. Edugeek meet up at MCM you say?
ataylor Posted May 21, 2015 Author Posted May 21, 2015 Wow nice, I don't put that much effort into my rig, Currently running G1 Sniper M3 board I5 3570k 16GB Ram Kingston XMP Beast series 2400MHz GTX 770 4gb 1x 120gb ssd (OS) 2x 240gb SSD (Game storage) 1x TB HDD (More game storage) All encased in one of these (NZXT Vulcan - The handle is amazing for lans)
LiamH Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Ah, the good old days of cod4 lan's. The hilarity when you bump into the person spewing bile online that turns out to be as timid as a mouse, the excessive alcohol consumption at night and sugar rush from amp during the day. Just make sure your cooling is up to scratch, it can get boiling in the gaming halls with everyone's rigs running.
Garacesh Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 (edited) MSI Z97 GAMING 5 ATX Motherboard 16GB Corsair Vengeance Pro 2400 RAM Intel Core i5 4690K CPU NVidia GeForce GTX 970 NVidia GeForce GTX 980TI GPU AlphaCool Hydro Cooling (CPU + GPU) Corsair H80i* NZXT Phantom 520 case** 7x Corsair Air Series 120mm fans (Red)*** Cooler Master G750M 750W Semi-Modular PSU * Maaaaybe H100i, not quite decided yet ** Maaaaybe NZXT Phantom 830, again undecided yet. *** I count 7 fan slots in the case. Realistically I think I could do 9 if I get a H100i and do Push/Pull. And yes, I do have that many fans to spare. Funny story. I ordered 5 fans, 4 to use and 1 for spare.. Didn't realise I'd put twin-packs in the basket. Received ten fans. Legit, yo. Edited May 21, 2015 by Garacesh
