Exchange / Outlook - Send email as though it has come from secondary email address

I'm having a bit of a brain block day. The bursar needs to send an email which has been approved by the head. This particular email needs to be sent from [email protected] email address however this email address is configured as a secondary email address within exchange on the headteacher's firstname/surname mailbox which means if someone sent an email to headteacher@ it will land in the heads firstname/surname mailbox. Normally if a user needs to send an email as someone else it will be discussed with me and I will allow the correct permissions and then tell the user sending the email what to do which is not a problem.

 

However, the company wanting this email says - the email needs to come from the headteacher@ email address and cannot come from another email address. I have tried to set the headteacher@ email address as the Reply address for the headteacher's firstname/surname mailbox but this doesn't work. The only way I can get it to work is to send the email with the headteacher's firstname/surname email address in the From field but when the email lands it doesn't land as the headteacher@ email address.

 

Whilst writing this out, I'm just thinking - would I need to remove headteacher@ from the list of email addresses on the headteachers firstname/surname mailbox, create a temporary mailbox with headteacher@ then delete this mailbox once the bursar has sent the email and then put headteacher@ back in the list of Email Addresses for the headteacher's firstname/surname mailbox - if that makes sense. I can't think of any other way to achieve this.

Are you using Exchange?

 

If so - set the secondary email address to be a distribution group (with the Head as a member) and then set SendAs permissions on the distribution group and use the "From" field in Outlook to select that as the reply address.

Just realised something - SendAs doesn't exist on Distribution groups - setting up a new mailbox looks like the answer

Or PowerShell, the GUI for Exchange 2010 wasn't really finished... and wait 'til you see 2013... it's genuinely easier to do most things from PowerShell then.
