After some help with a Citrix issue we have, we are using Citrix for vdi to Wyse terminals, as far as I am aware it has been problematic since it was first installed 2 years ago, we have ironed out most of the issues but one that keeps reccuring is students will be presented with no desktop available, and when this happens students won't be able to logon, if we logon to Citrix Director it will list machine logon failures, sometimes rebooting the ones with issues will unclog the system and people can log in again. Other times we need to load up Citrix Storefront, click on stores, click on manage delivery controllers then click ok ( without making any actual changes).

The errors we get on storefront are:

1) All the Citrix XML Services configured for farm Controller failed to respond to this XML Service transaction.

2) An error occurred while attempting to read information from the Citrix servers: Unable to read data from the transport connection: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.. This message was reported from the XML Service at address http://CITRIXCTRL02/scripts/wpnbr.dll [NFuseProtocol.TRequestAddress]. The specified Citrix XML Service could not be contacted and has been temporarily removed from the list of active services.

3) An error occurred when connecting to the Citrix server to access the resource. Verify that the server is running and that the network is functioning. This error was reported for an XML Service at address http://CITRIXCTRL01/scripts/wpnbr.dll [NFuseProtocol.TRequestAddress].

4) An error occurred while attempting to connect to the server ctxctrl01.skinnerskentacademy.org.uk on port 80. Verify that the Citrix XML Service is running and is using the correct port. If the XML Service is configured to share ports with Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS), verify that IIS is running. This message was reported from the XML Service at address . The specified Secure Ticket Authority could not be contacted and has been temporarily removed from the list of active services.

I know this is very specific and I don't really expect a solution, but the next stage is paying a "specialist" £1000's

Thanks!

This may not be of much help but here's what I would do:

Update Citrix if you haven't already (Clicky),

Rebuild Storefront or create a new storefront specifically for wyse,

Update the Wyse terminals.

From there you could start rebuilding the gold images and DDC's.

Check what STA servers are configured on Storefront. We use Xenapp and had lots of problems with clients refusing to connect with similar errors. It turned out that we had multiple STA servers that were using the same Vdisk meaning they had the same STA UID which caused a conflict (this needs to be unique). Running 'Prepare this server for imaging and provisioning' should reset this identifier but for some reason it doesn't on our setup. You can can check the UID in this file C:\Program Files (x86)\Citrix\system32\ctxsta.config

I've not heard of STA before, can't see that file in either of our delivery controllers or the storefront server or the SQL server or the director nor the licensing server, in fact none of these even have the system32 folder in Citrix. What server should I be looking for it on, we aren't using any Xen apps just desktops on 4 physical hosts with 2 delivery controllers. We also have a Netscaler MPX, but as we are no longer using this for staff access from home, we aren't sure what purpose this serves???!

If you are not using external access the connection is likely to be direct through store front; although you may be using netscaler for load balancing.

The STA is the secure ticket authority. In your netscaler and storefront settings you will point to the STA which resides on any server that has (xenapp/desktop) installed- I'm not really sure how relevant it is, other than they must have different ID's. The Citrix forums are a MUCH better resource for technical stuff than edugeek (although from what I've seen it seems to be the place to go to have an argument)
