Use OBS, its by far the smoothest recording tool I've used, it doesn't suffer from the lag the others seem to have.

 

It's used a lot on youtube for recording game screens so it needs to be capable of converting a lot of FPS into a useable video. Plus its free and not full of dodgy stuff!

For Screen animations and demos we tend to use Camtasia for most of our demos, it isn't free but it does perform pretty well and it is really good for adding all the extra callouts, highlights and other bits onto screen recordings. You certainly wouldn't buy it just for the feature, but if you already have NetSupport School from us, it does feature a simple "Record and Replay"option, so you can control another PC, record all screen activity and then save it as a Media file. Its very basic, so not going to satisfy the more media savvy, but handy if you want to record "how to do" videos.

 

Might have to check out OBS now though
