2D Barcodes

Has anyone got the quickmark mobile barcode software installed on their cameraphone?

I've installed it on my HP 514 and it's very cool you can then generate a barcode that can be used to send an sms, vcard, website url etc...

 

Could save a lot of typing and no need to bluetooth anything just bring the picture up show you phone display to the other phones camera and voila.

Well they are used on postage and for eticket type events as well.

Yes to read a 2d barcode you need the software and I suppose everyone probably has bluetooth etc... any way, some phones come with the software allready installed though as well.

there was a whole treasure hunt competition in America based on these. They were pasted around, you took the picture, the software decoded the message and off you went to the next one. Quite cool.

Looks good, I'll have to have a chat with them about using this with my new inventory tracking system. Beats having to carry something with a bar code scanner on it, just scan the tag and grab the information from the DB/AD strait away.

Thats a very good idea plus because you can store a relatively good amount of data in it then it could contain the serial number, school address etc.. and then serves as an offline copy of its inventory data set.

With 2d Barcodes you can store more information then you can with a 1d barcodes.....as always a quick Google reveals all!

Billing for items from vending machines, as has already been said. It could be used in companies for inventory. There's lots of applications in any system that uses identification and logging etc. I personally see more applications within industry than I do in everyday you-and-me-joe-public use.

 

It's a neat idea though!

Well, there would be some integration with GSM networks, or probably these days the third gen networks, to dock the price of the coke or sandwich or whatever off your phone bill.

 

It's been done before where you txted the vending machine with a code and it dropped the food out. It didn't take off though.

I shouldn't imagine so the idea of a vending machine is for it to be quick. Texting the machine will slow it down.

If you've got no money on you then it's a good idea. It's all coming down to a similar principal of single-sign-in in my opinion. Pay for everything the same way. I don't see SMS being the way to pay personally.
