jamin100 Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 I need to move our staff files from a very old 2003 storage server to a new 2012R2 Virtual Server. The server is already setup and serving files for our shared areas but id like a bit more information before moving the staff files and more specifically offline files. in GP staff have a policy to sync the H:\ drive. So if the file server name changes but the files in the H:\ drive are still the same will sync continue as normal ?
synaesthesia Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 As bloody awful as offline files are, would it perhaps be worth looking at something else instead? Office 365 and Onedrive maybe also with a decent remote access system like HAP? Be far more reliable and less likely for files to wander off constantly.
edutech4schools Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 I would use this time to ditch offline files as it's such a poor service and is not reliable.
jamin100 Posted April 20, 2015 Author Posted April 20, 2015 Yeh we do use HAP and are looking into O365 at the minute but we do have quite a lot of staff that don't have Internet access!
sted Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 you could try work folders it will work over the internet or just internally and can be configured with group policy and I believe though havnt tested you can redirect my docs etc to it so it looks like offline files without being offline files
