[sims] Pupil Impact Summary for Cover

I decided to do a quick analysis of our interim Progress 8 scores versus the amount of cover a student has experienced over the school year with the Students Impacted By Absence report in Cover. Hitting a few issues though.

 

1) For some reason the report dumps trailing spaces in every field. I'm not talking one trailing space but an entire line of invisible spaces waiting to mess you up until you discover them and squash them with TRIM( ) in Excel.

 

2) Is there any way to prevent the report from dumping a load of blank rows between names? I wanted a simple flat file to put in a pivot table or database but the blanks prevent that unless I go through all 1000+ pupils to fill their name on each line one by one. It is laid out like it's been pivoted already, I just want to sort that out myself after export. End result is I am only analysing half the set of data that I wanted to.

You can make SIMS export a name on each row by unpicking the suppliers duplicates on the report output screen (I think it is just under where you name the report), this will make it that if you have all their grades lists in one of the columns it will make sure it doesn't make the data beforehand blank.

It isn't a report from the Reporting engine. It's a pre-made one in the Cover Statistics menu route so I don't get that option. Not sure how to handle them in Excel when they do this.

I am just trying to run the report now, but I have stuffed up my machine with office 2013 and it constantly trying to open it up in 2010. I don't think there is a way of customising it. You may have to make the report in the reporting engine
