Damn. I did have my eyes on that for the kids. We've just given them a Wii U (which they love), but the lack of titles is a huge problem. Unless you are willing to fork out £40-ish per Nintendo title there are very slim pickings and the situation is getting worse. Even used Nintendo titles are just as much as new (I'm looking at you here CEX!)

Mario Maker will be great, but I can't see much life left in it with almost zero third party support, very few indy games in the estore and some retailers shunning it.

On a trip to Asda yesterday we found no Wii U titles at all on the (very small) Nintedo shelf in the gaming dept.

I have a suspicion that books will be written in the near future about the Wii U, and not in a good way.

Wii U is a testament to Nintendo's arrogance sadly. I am an early adopter and it was a disappointment with Mario Maker the only thing I am left waiting for. Between their awful naming policy and total disrespect for third parties coupled with announcing an underspec machine too early I'd say give it a pass now. Once the PS4 and XB1 gain enough traction, the platform will be dead in the water and I doubt many will trust the next machine they release.

Also, where other manufacturers have embraced streaming, Nintendo is trying to shut it down. As far as online systems go, Nintendo are showing their inexperience in that area.

its true there are less games for the wii u but I seem to find myself playing it more than my xbox one as a rule (though atm ive set myself a challenge to get my gamerscore to 30'000 by the end of april for no reason)

As much as I'd love an XBone the majority of the games are not suitable for the kids yet, but I would like one as an 'all-in-one' solution to watch films from my NAS box, Netflix etc. as well as gaming.

The Wii U is just lacking in so many features (multimedia for a start) that I wonder if Nintendo actually had comittees of people stripping things out of it rather than deciding what to put in it.

I think it shows in most gaming retailers where you will have huge shelves full of Sony titles, huge shelves full of Microsoft titles, a large section of PC based games and then you have to do two laps of the store to find the Nintendo shelf (singular and narrow) now.

Got to say, when the time comes, I'm interested in picking up a secondhand Wii-U and probably secondhand copy of this game. Even if I only pick up the Wii-U for this game, it looks interesting - in a similar way to Final Fantasy XV looks interesting. I think there are one or two other Wii-U games that have caught my eye but I very much see it as a second system with a very limited library. Pretty much Nintendo that you can't get on PS4.

@Dos_Box - you may find this article a good starting point: The best Wii U games • Eurogamer.net

I'll get a Wii U at some point, for Zelda/Mario/Mario Kart/Smash Bros... but with the NX announced, I figure I may as well wait until it's all on fire sale. Really have shot themselves in the foot for now.

I think the tablet controller was a gimmick too far - it wasn't as easily explained as the WiiMote, and that meant they couldn't repeat their trick of selling to the grandmas. No-one ever got a good handle on how to develop for it, either, unlike the DS.

I thought that about the tablet BUT its handy for some games as I can play them just on the tablet and leave the tv on n(and some virtual console games esp Gameboy advance ones looking shocking on a 42" tv but fine on the pad) and if used properly like lego city undercover or Zelda windwaker actually make the game much better

as to games id recommend captain toad treasure tracker but a lot of whats on mine are virtual console games so Mario kart(snes) fire emblem(gba) Mario 64(n64)

I'm not doubting the quality of the games released. We gave the kids Super Mario 3d Word, Sonic lost World and Nintendoland. All of which rock. Just the lack of titles for a console about to hit its third birthday later this year.

One thing I did like was the Pikmin animation when we transferred all of the games and settings off the old Wii and the way it carried on when they were put on the Wii U. Very classy.

Just got to hack the Homebrew channel onto the Wii part of the Wii U and we can get some emulators up and running again :)
