Nat and routing

Dear all,

 

I'm running into a bit of a problem here. I have two virtual switches setup on one 2012 R2 Datacenter Physical Host with one (1) physical NIC:

 

Physical Host is running 192.168.50.100, GW: 192.168.50.1, SM: 255.255.255.0 (Cisco Router has the IP of 192.168.50.1).

 

The External vSwitch Netowrk IP - 192.168.50.100 which is connect to physic nic and the Internal vSwitch Network IP Add is 10.10.10.1.

 

I have two VM's in HyperV host

VM1 has two nics - internal and external

 

Internal IP - 10.10.10.2 , SM - 255.255.255.0

External IP - 192.168.50.x, GW: GW: 192.168.50.1, SM: 255.255.255.

I have setup RRAS to use NAT on VM1, can get to internet and everything works fine.

 

 

VM2 has one nic and connected to the internal switch

Internal IP- 10.10.10..3, SM:255.255.255.0 and GW:10.10.10.2

 

I couldn't get internet on VM2. Any ideas on what I might be doing wrong or how I could setup an effective route between the two networks? Any and all ideas are most welcome and appreciated.

Do you have any firewalls enabled on either VM, they could be getting in the way. Try disabling them first, if that works then you can re-enable and work out the relevant exceptions.

 

Also, have you explicitly told Windows on VM1 to share it's internet connection on it's external NIC?

Do i need to enable - internet connection sharing on external NIC on the VM1? I haven't done that yet.

As far as I know yes. That should automatically set up the routing table entries needed to NAT between the connections.
