edutech4schools Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 Just setting up a new server and moving the shared folder over. I need to get the mapped drives to map to the new server. I have just gone into Group Policy Management, edited the mapped drive policy and changed the following, Action = update Location = \\newserver\share$ When I log in as a user the drive has not mapped, which is possibly due to a delay in the gpo getting updated on the client, but wanted to know if this method was the best? Another method I can think of would be to put the Action to remove and then add a new separate mapped drive for the new server. Any advice about getting it to map to the new server as the user logs in without needing to wait for any updates.
Michael Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 If you choose Replace, that should do the trick. To be honest (for this exact reason) I always choose Replace even with new shares. Works first time every time, subject to any other more serious issue like a server offline for example. 1
