Tropical fish keepers?

In the hotest weather, we have had the cover off and a fan blowing on the surface to keep the water temperature down... it does help... as long as you have no jumpers in the tank! We picked a corydora off the floor once!

 

We feed fresh veg too. Peas and cucumber are particularly popular.

Never seen veg being fed other than an occasional slice of cucumber for plecs - what do you feed?

 

I normally pop down to my local fish shop to take all of their pest duckweed from them because it seems to be quite popular with my fish, helps some of the shy fish come out in the shade and helps reduce evaporation - but veg sounds interesting!

Defrost half a dozen peas, pinch them to pull the tough outer skin off and drop them in the tank. The fish love them.

 

A lettuce leaf (use a clip to hold it to the glass) goes down well too.

 

The fish always get the end off the cucumber. We use a clip with a fishing weight attached to sink it.

Definitely the Ancistrus... Bristle nose catfish (plec). It just has bags of personality. Tough as nails too. Not so fond of him when he's in the mood for tunnelling and gravel flies all over the tank. I will try to find some pics of his excavations; huge mounds of gravel displaced

 

Although I'm quite fond of the busy little hillstream loach too

Try courgette. Every fish in my tank loves it! Never any left after about 24 hours.

I used to give mine mushroom aswell as fish like guppies seemed to really love it and they get to chase it round the top.

 

There's a good fish shop in Gloucester who sell live river shrimp for about 20p which are great for giving your fish a little challenge to eat. Around this time of year as well I try to get hold of live fresh daphnia as my tank becomes a feeding frenzy when they go in! Small snails normally get in there aswell which the clown loaches love to sort out.

I was worried you would ask that... haha!

Had to go through my map history to when I went- AquaJardin for the live river shrimp and the Water Garden in Hinton Parva for the daphnia

Finally started to stock the sump of the 4 footer today - the mrs was going past the LFS so asked her to get "all the red cherry shrimp they had" for our planted refugium.

 

lol and behold she came back with .... 1! All they had left! He paints a lonely picture in a 4 foot sump bless him
