External Hard Drive Failure

We had one that did that recently (except teacher claimed they didn't drop it, the case most certainly said otherwise). To get it working well enough to take about 10% of the hard drive off, I sealed it in 2 food bags (the ones with no holes except the one at the top), one inside the other, and put it in the industrial chiller set at -18 in the food technology room for half an hour, and took it straight out and took data off it in small batches. Repeating the process every 50 or so MB until the drive died completely.

 

Was very slow but it did work (data transfer maxed out at 120 kbps)
