Chargeline vs. Smartline Laptop Trolley

Recommended Posts

Hi,

We're prepared to pay LapSafe prices for a decent 15 bay laptop trolley. My concerns about the Smartline is the future cost (<£450 per 5-laptop module) for when we change the laptops. I'm not sure I can really justify spending almost 25% of the cost of laptop on plugging it in.

So that leaves the Chargeline, a few worries:

What's the cable management in it like? (Is there any?) The way the cables just appear is great on the Smartline, it would be nice if they were similar.

The Power Adaptor is very close to laptop. I know there is a fan in the back but battery life is very dependent on temperature. Is the fan effective? How long have your laptops lasted (Our RMs are now 4 years old and the batteries are still going strong!)

Our existing 15 bay laptop is twice the size. Is it not a bit cramped in there?

Thanks.

Some manufacturers agree to keep a particular charger for a period of time ... this is one of the factors that we include when looking at which aptops to buy. Saying that, we use chargeline mainly due to cost at the moment ... but we are working on that.

Cable management is pretty much non-existent in the chargeline but, as Tony says, the cost of the SmartLine is prohibitive and you are restricted to a certain manufacturer (if not model) of laptop.

Chargeline cable management is a nightmare. The kids pull the laptops out before they can pull out the power cable, so you end up wth 15 power cables hanging out of the trolley, or even worse, in a tangled heap on the floor.

And of course, owing to the fact that staff don't see it as "thier job", thats how they come back, so you get the fun of sorting through the cables, every day! yay!

We have 2 old(ish) smartline-style laptop trolleys, and they are so much better. The cables dont fall out, and the power plugs are totally hidden away.

I actually took all of the laptops in the chargeline trolley and split them between the spaces left in the smartline-style ones. It has made life a lot easier, let me tell you!
