gsk Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Hi All, Looking at disaster recovery options and the unlikely (but possible) scenario of having to restore to new hardware from a full bare metal backup using Server Backup in Windows Server 2008 R2. *What problems is this likely to cause if it is the sole DC for the network? *Is this a reasonable approach to take? *If not, how should it be done? Thanks,
Gatt Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 I've done similar to a VM using the SystemState - not a full "Bare Metal" so YMMV I just installed a base image no config other than installing Server Backup and ADDS to allow me into AD Restore Mode and then restored the System State It restored the DC's name and associated configuration. Had a few issues with missing software and MSI corruption but, as I say, this was just SystemState so don't know if it differs from a Bare-Metal restore??
