Trapper Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 Popped over last night from my home in Birmingham to my folks in South Derbyshire (~45 miles). Got there no problem at all, even at rush hour. End up annoying the neighbours as I kept setting my parents house alarm off, but I did sort it. Get back in my car, start it, doesn't move well, stalls. Won't start. Call rescue firm and it's the cam position sensor. He doesn't have one. So I'm them towed all the way back to Birmingham at 9pm at night, and to make matters worse the only garage around here who has the part before Tuesday is KwikFit! So that's £90 for the part, and another £30 to get the damn car towed 2 miles there. The towing firm will be here at "lunchtime" - nice and vague! You know when you have a feeling that it's a bad day, and what you are doing is a bad idea? I had that when I hit Spaghetti Junction on the outward journey. I really should have turned around.
Trapper Posted March 21, 2015 Author Posted March 21, 2015 After a whole afternoon sat in KwikFit - still not working. A hell of a to-do though. They changed the cam position sensor, didn't fire. Tried to change the crank position sensor, didn't have on in stock. Got their supply depot to drop one round - the box contained a single large nut! Someone had returned it and stolen the item. A third supplier drops the sensor off. Won't fit in the engine, it's 0.05mm thicker than the original. So they shave it down. Car still won't start - now left until Monday. What a ridiculous weekend!
elsiegee40 Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 Poor you @Trapper. A nightmare that seems determined to drag on Eduhobnobs on their way!
sippo Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 I can tell you the issue - Kwikfit. Utter cowboys, and haven't a clue what they are doing. I would have waited and gone to a decent garage. Yes it would have been a longer wait til today, but you would have been better off.
Miscbrah Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 (edited) I can tell you the issue - Kwikfit. Utter cowboys, and haven't a clue what they are doing. I also think we've found the problem. Although I don't agree entirely with this statement. They DO know what they're doing IF that particular "what" that they're doing is telling you you need new brakes. They seem to tell EVERYONE that now at every single point. My grandma (bless her) is getting on a bit now, is French, has Alzheimers, arthritis, and not even the vaguest interest in cars but I would prefer her to change my CPS any day over Kwik Fit. If you were closer I'd change it! Provided it wasn't a Saab B204x engine. Or anything older than 2000. Or took any real effort or anything. Edited March 23, 2015 by Miscbrah
