the_quick Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Hi Guys Just wonder if anyone uses any screen capture software. ICT students need to record their work, what they are doing on computers, can some one recommend any software? Of course free would be the best, but very often either do not work or have limitations. Thanks
mikecain Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 we use Microsoft Expression encoder, works well, but is limited to about 10 mins, which is plenty of time for here 1
jonnykewell1 Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 This works nice and the file sizes are really small. Screen Recorder v2.0 (beta) | Screencast-O-Matic - Free online screen recorder for instant screen capture video sharing. You might have to fiddle around with java to make sure it runs the plug ins.
the_quick Posted March 16, 2015 Author Posted March 16, 2015 Thanks all for replies, Encoder - can't use it, limit is too small CamStudio - bit bloatware, it installed additional pieces of software, without even telling me and it installed itself to appdata folder - so unless pupils will be given permissions to install software, it will not work, Arreks how did you overcome those problems? On-line version of Screencats-o-matic looks promising, just need to check if I can run it on student account
jtotheb Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Microsoft's Office Labs Community Clips is pretty decent and free. Hasn't been updated in a while, but still seems to work ok. Comes with an MSI too for deployment, just add a restart switch.
themightymrp Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 I use camstudio here, but ours has installed to Program Files.....?
mjk Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Chrome extension: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/screencastify-screen-vide/mmeijimgabbpbgpdklnllpncmdofkcpn?hl=en Saves directly to local machine or Google drive. Deployed from GAFE. 2
jonnykewell1 Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Chrome extension: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/screencastify-screen-vide/mmeijimgabbpbgpdklnllpncmdofkcpn?hl=en Saves directly to local machine or Google drive. Deployed from GAFE. This looked perfect until I saw the price per user for our organisation. Such a shame it has a time limit as it does everything we want.
theeggmaster Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 This looked perfect until I saw the price per user for our organisation. Such a shame it has a time limit as it does everything we want. I was lucky enough to install it for our organisation before it went paid, and they gave it to us for free for being an early supporter. It is a really good piece of software and is obviously the one we use. The other one I like is the Techsmith SnagIt extension and Chrome app: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/techsmith-snagit/fcnghgbgmemnlbckdipnmelbanpgneik?hl=en-GB https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/techsmith-snagit-extensio/annopcfmbiofommjmcmcfmhklhgbhkce?hl=en-GB
sonofsanta Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 We have CamStudio just running from a share on a file server... been a few years, though, so maybe we're just lucky to have a non-rubbish version.
mjk Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 This looked perfect until I saw the price per user for our organisation. Such a shame it has a time limit as it does everything we want. half our staff have it installed. don't think they are paying anything!
Jamo Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Use obs its by far the best screen capture tool for free

themightymrp Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Not come across Office Mix - looks good though! Think I'll download it and have a play, especially as we have O365 and it can upload to it!
lostsoul Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Not come across Office Mix - looks good though! Think I'll download it and have a play, especially as we have O365 and it can upload to it! I only discovered it after a teacher asked for it to be installed in a classroom. Not used it much my self, but have it in quite a few rooms now and it gets used a lot by students.
themightymrp Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 I've just put it onto my machine to have a look - seems really good! Will play a bit more before I start telling staff about it. This may end up going into my master laptop image for deployments, so thanks!
SpuffMonkey Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Have you tried "Any Video Recorder" - its free seems to work OK and haven't seen any nasties in it yet!
