TomHD Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Hello All, I am wanting to add a new virtual queue so that we can manage colour/greyscale printing. I have set up the printer queue on the first server and configured it in Papercut. Do I need to restart something (server or some RM service) to get it to appear in the Printers list in RMMC? Many Thanks, TomHD
Chris_ Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Have you ticked the 'List in directory' box in the print queue options on the server? 1
foofighterjim Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Have you shared it in AD like you would with a normal printer? The RMMC will only populate printers that can be seen in AD. Edit: chris beat me to it. 1
TomHD Posted March 13, 2015 Author Posted March 13, 2015 Thanks Chaps, worked perfectly. You learn something everyday eh and it makes complete sense now.
TomHD Posted March 13, 2015 Author Posted March 13, 2015 So I can now see my new virtual printer in "All Printers" in RMMC. I have gone to Locations>My Location>Properties>Printers and have added the virtual printer there. [i have set up a test location and put my desktop in that location] When I go to Printers>All Printers>My Virtual Printer>Properties>Assignment it shows no location or computer!? Am I still missing something? Thanks in advance
foofighterjim Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 The printers tab on the computer properties only shows printers assigned at the workstation level. At the bottom of that window it says: "This computer also may have printer connections that have been set for its location. Click here to view them." Click the link to see a list of inherited printers.
TomHD Posted March 13, 2015 Author Posted March 13, 2015 @foofighterjim, I was looking at the printer assignments themselves under the "All Printers" section [which is the window that opens when I follow the link you mention], not under the computer properties "printers" tab
foofighterjim Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 @foofighterjim, I was looking at the printer assignments themselves under the "All Printers" section [which is the window that opens when I follow the link you mention], not under the computer properties "printers" tab Ah, never even looked at that view before. Mine are empty too. Wouldn't have thought it was anything to worry about although would obviously be helpful in certain scenarios.
TomHD Posted March 13, 2015 Author Posted March 13, 2015 The reason I bring it up is that I cannot print to my new queue as it is not assigned to my computer. Will raise a ticket with RM on Monday and give an update.
foofighterjim Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 (edited) Before you do that; are you using an x86 workstation? If so did you add the 32-bit drivers as additional drivers to the server? Edited March 13, 2015 by foofighterjim
TomHD Posted March 13, 2015 Author Posted March 13, 2015 Yupp, the workstations are 32-bit and I did install a slightly different driver for the new virtual queue so will certainly look at changing it to match the existing virtual queue.
foofighterjim Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 The driver version numbers and names need to be identical for it to work on CC4, the best way to tell is get an x64 workstation and try from that. If it works on x64 but not on x86 then it is almost certainly related to additional drivers not being correct.
