Printer applying sporadically

We deployed printers by group policy. How is is possible for a student to logon to one machine and not get a printer and then log to a machine in the same OU and then get a printer? What would be a good way of trouble shooting this?

We've had this issue before and it's because the driver wouldn't installed under the student as they didn't have correct permissions. Try logging onto the problem machine as an admin and manually connecting to the printer to ensure the drivers are downloaded and installed. Then see if it fixes the problem. If this is the issue I believe there is a group policy option to enable the installation of drivers by users. Although I can't recall what it is off the top of my head.

 

If you're still having issues then you can run "GPRESULT /H" from the command prompt which will give you a report of what group policies have been applied and possibly help show any conflicts etc. It's also always useful to run a "gpupdate /force" to force the computer to update it's group policies from the server. Finally you could double check the computer is indeed in the OU you believe it to be in. A few times we've rebuilt problem machines and the computer has ended up back in the default "computers" ou instead of where we expected it to go.

 

Just a few things to try...

 

 

Try running gpresult /h from the command prompt to see what policies are being applied and if there are any issues. If having issues you can try running a gpupdate /force to force it to update the group policies as well.
