An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Technician Demonstrator - Design Software to join the team responsible for the Games Art Programme within the School of The Arts.

 

The successful candidate will primarily support the Games Art provision but also the resource in Graphic Communication and Illustration and occasionally the resource in 3D Design. As well as maintaining these IT resources as a Technician, the post holder will also be expected to demonstrate software usage to individual and groups of students on a regular basis.

 

Experience and knowledge of current practice and trend within some or all the subject areas associated with these resources is essential.

 

Key responsibilities include to:

 

- Maintain an Apple Mac and PC provision identifying opportunities to upgrade systems to maintain a cutting edge design provision.

 

- Ensure the general upkeep of software, hardware and operating systems and to complete purchase orders accordingly.

 

- Install and manage software on a Windows/Mac operating system.

 

- Manage and support the running of a software licence server (for Adobe Cloud and AutoDesk products).

 

- Offer technical assistance on an Apple Mac to all users.

 

- Offer formal technical demonstration to students on Adobe Creative Suite and related software.

 

- Have an awareness of 3D modelling packages (3DSMax, Maya, ZBrush, etc....) and games engine environments or a willingness to learn gaming software.

 

- Ensure that computers and studios are in a clean, tidy and serviceable order at the beginning and end of each day.

 

- Support the management and running of servers dedicated to hosting games and large image files for student work.

 

- Diligently monitor and manage the studio environment to maintain high standards.

 

- Manage printing for students (large format printing) and help students set up work for print.

 

- Manage the laser cutting facility or be prepared to acquire such skill sets.

 

- Work with confidence with large or small groups to demonstrate software usage.
