Office 365 Safeguarding

Hi

 

I am just looking into office 365 and how we can monitor students email for safeguarding. The only options I think we have is

 

1. blocked words

2. limit what domain they can send to and from

 

Is this correct or do other use any other methods?

 

The other thing I have been looking into is the backup, If I understand correctly we can only keep the deleted items for up to 30 day and hen it will get deleted. What do others do in case they need previous emails?

you can set it to "teacher approval" so that any email they send has to be read and approved by insert "name of teacher" before its actually sent if you want.

 

i THINK you can alter the deleted items policy with powershell but im not sure

By creating mail rules, yes you can restrict/limit e-mails being sent to pupil accounts. By default I configure this for pupil accounts, so only staff at the school can e-mail them by default. If they then started up Pen Pals for example with another school, it's simply a case of adding their domain to an exception list, with everything else remaining blocked.

We have setup a journaling mail box that gives us a near live vies of what's going on

I've created a custom mail rule that applies to students which monitors for certain key expressions such as "kill you", "suicide" and various others. If it spots them then it replies with an 'email has been blocked for the following reasons' message and also forwards a copy of the message to the school CP Officer.
