Tablets for students - A Framework to choose one

Hi All,

My name is Jason Davis from Sheffield Hallam University. I am currently writing a dissertation regarding tablets in education and I am currently writing a dissertation entitled: 'Investigation into the development of a framework to support schools in the process of selecting a Mobile Platform for tablets'.

The framework is designed to aid schools in choosing the tablet platform that is best from them based on the schools needs.

An interesting read. I did note that deliverable two has a process repeated in the flow chart - "Will this replace teachers work laptops?" appears twice. I've completed your form, good luck with the ongoing thesis.

Thanks to both of you who have replied. @daveleonard - Ill check over that now thank you, I should put a dyslexia not on the end.

@daveleonard the section in question has now been updated. A silly mistake, it should have said 'Would you prefer a customisable display or a simplistic one?'

Looking at deliverable 1 there are a couple of additions I'd make.

 

Ios con, Apple ID age requirement of 13

 

Also, the latest android systems don't natively support flash like you say, but there is a browser for its , puffin education, which allows flash plugins to work and restricts the content the education sites only. Some of the other browsers that support flash do so by loading the website on a server and serving this back to the device, this can bypass filtering out in place.

 

Taking the above statement into account you would need to alter deliverable 2.

Hi Jason. I think that what you've done is great. At our school we have yet to go down the tablet route, but I think that your chart would be really valuable when we have to come up with a choice. I did try to fill in your questionnaire, but fell foul of the "Which device platform did the framework suggest for your school" bit, as you are forced to say what your school chose - which ours hasn't done.

Hi @digone52,

The section "Which device platform did the framework suggest for your school", is in regards to the tablet platform which following the flowchart suggests you. If its the question; "If 'No' which device platform did your school choose?" that caused an issue I have just added an option for you to choose which is 'No tablets yet'. Im sorry this caused and issue it would be great if you could fil in the questionnaire again please as this would be brilliant feedback.

Thank you too everyone who has responded to the questionnaire so far I will be taking the questionnaire down from receiving responses at 5pm GMT on Tuesday the 24th, so that I can conduct my analysis of the result.

 

If you haven't already filled in the questionnaire, please do your feedback will be greatly appreciated and will help shape the future of this framework, which I plan on expanding upon in the future.
