DNS Issue

Hi

 

Had a couple of issues with some of our machines that connect over direct access.

 

Every so often they can't access any mapped drives. Sometimes it does it a few times a day.

 

If they browse to \\drives it doesn't work. But if they browse to \\drives.domain.local it works fine

 

ipconfig /flushdns makes it work but sometimes it does it again

 

Any suggestions please?

What kind of results do you get with ipconfig /displaydns, could it be that they are using their ISP's DNS servers and getting the wrong IP on their local cache?

 

If the drive is mapped it may be using the default DNS before the direct access is established.

Hi,

 

Yes ipconfig /all gives us the DNS IP addresses of the ISP and then the local router.

Sounds like it is trying to map the drives before the Direct Access / VPN connection is running, how are the drives mapped? are they mapped via my computer > map network drive?

 

I think direct access has a setting for mapping drives on the client end, could try that.
