abillybob Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Microsoft will 'invest in Cyanogen' to help lessen Google's Android dominance- The Inquirer Microsoft is investing a couple of 10's of Thousands to Cyanogenmod and hopes that the company will be moving further away from Google's Play Eco-System and using Microsofts.

If Cyanogen's latest releases are anything to go by (Running their version 12 Android lollipop 5.0.2) it should be fun

If we want to go completely left field I would say that this is possibly the first steps into create a microsft branded version of Linux.
featured_spectre Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 MS are too invested in W10. Its their platform like Apple iOS and OSX...wouldn't be fruitful to go down a linux route unless they created one that actively ran the same way Windows does.

Arthur Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 (edited) It was all a hoax. CyanogenMod != Cyanogen OS. It is the latter that's getting the Microsoft apps bundled. Obviously the April Fool's announcement was a hoax, but this isn't. While Cyanogen Inc's Cyanogen OS may have other plans, the non-corporate arm of the larger Cyanogen identity, CyanogenMod, has clarified today that the community version of the ROM will not ship with Cyanogen OS's "exclusive partner apps." That means that no, your next CM nightly build will not have any Microsoft junk on it - that privilege is reserved for the exclusive pleasure of OnePlus One and Yu Yureka owners. The distinction here is that those phones run Cyanogen OS versus the standard, community-developed CyanogenMod. While Cyanogen OS shares a code base with CyanogenMod, Cyanogen Inc can then add software or features into the builds that end up on Cyanogen OS devices, which get the Cyanogen OS name (eg Cyanogen OS 12).
