eyetea Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Hi all, Just wondering if you could help - in the odd moments of peace (hah) I'm finally trying to sort our the office + store room. We have a box of 15/20 HDD's that were taken from dead machines for use as spares - I used one the other day and it was obvious it was a duff one as it was clicking away. Aside from listening and seeing if it appears in disk management / explorer is there any software I could run to verify if the hard drive is a good'un or not? Cheers, J
r0cketbev Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Depending on maker of drive you can get software like Seagate tools or WD lifeguard to test if the unit is duff or not. I have used them in the past and found them to be very good at diagnosis. 1
synaesthesia Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Hirens Boot CD is a wonderful tool for many things including HDD checker. I usually use HDD Sentinel on it as an initial check; if that passes with 100% health and no smart warnings then I'll check with the HDD manufacturers tool also on the same CD. If it's bad in Sentinel, it'll get thrown. 1
