While planning for the demise of our 2003 servers in a few months time, I'm looking to migrate our current 2003 & 2008 TS/RDP licences from a Windows 2003 server to a Windows 2012 server ideally or 2008 if all else fails.

Has anyone gone through this process themselves as the official MS documentation is a bit contradictory in places, with one part saying to call the clearing house, and another part just saying to follow the wizard.

Hi,

Are you using the existing server to install Windows, or do you have another physical/virtual box you're setting up alongside?

Are you upgrading your host servers too, or just your license server, as you'll need 2012 CALS otherwise?

If you can have both servers running at once, you can use the the following to migrate them automatically:

Hopefully this will help.

Thankfully I have both servers running (or 3 if you count a 2008 box I can use as the LS)

The RDP server itself will be upgraded to 2008 as 70% of our CALS are for that OS, but we just downgraded them to 2003 as it was easier to give staff the XP style experience.

I was hoping I could use the automated route but just wanted to verify it with someone who had done similar :)
