Romo robot control via web

Picked up a couple of the Romo robots (controled by ipod/iphone) at BETT to try. They are fine except one feature is that they should be able to be controlled via an iPad or a PC with Chrome browser. It works if I use any other wifi other than school so its probably down to being blocked by firewall etc. Anyone used them and got it working, and what eeds unblocking? Sent an email to company but no reply as yet other than to reinstall app and using it on a router that has a firewall may be problematic.

Manual says " if your devices are connected to an enterprise or work network. These networks typically block the ports that Romo needs to stream video. " which is not good for something which is meant for schools.

Had more info sent through but not sure how to implement it if anyone can help. The following info needs to be set as far on our server firewall or on the Ruckus controller, not sure which? Romo does not need the internet, only the same network. I have Server 2008 R2 and Ruckus WiFi all on the sane network.

 

"Please be sure port #21355 is open on your wireless router.

Check your router for an advanced setting to enable multicast routing (IGMP Proxy). If the default setting is disabled, our implementation system Bonjour will have difficulty functioning."

 

Any help very much appreciated.

Did anyone ever get this working? I think I am in the same situation - everything works except (giant except) for remote control. I set a static IP for the phone, forwarded 21355 to it and enabled IGMP Proxy. No change. The web site call looks like it is trying but nothing appears on the Romo phone. Calling from the Romo Control app immediately hangs up and again nothing appears on the Romo.

No, not sorted it, still need to find out hiw to set the IGMP? If you can tell me how to do it I'll try it here. Surprisingly, did get it to work once here (even without setting IGMP) but not been able to get it to do it again! Will give it ago in the morning and let you know

Right, had ROMO out just now and my remote control works iPod to Ipod via WiFi but cant get it to work Google Chrome (Networked PC) to ROMO, just does as you describe, eventually hangs up.

I finally got a reply from them.

 

I am very sorry that your Romo is not working as expected. Unfortunately, Romo's telepresence runs on a third-party platform called OpenTok, and we are very limited in how much we can change that platform. We currently have a request in with OpenTok's developers for support on a telepresence issue that affects Romo, but I am not sure when this issue will be addressed. I will certainly provide more information if we have any updates on this issue.

 

That was too vague so I pressed for more details, especially whether this is affecting some or all users.

 

Unfortunately, telepresence is down for everyone. Because of the factors I mentioned before, we are unsure of when it will be available again. I wish I had better news than this, but this is the latest information that I have.

 

So now I wait. I will trust that they are actually working on it.
