Redirect Website

Hello

 

I have posted my various issues surrounding this problem in other places of the forum but perhaps have complicated matters.

 

Forgetting any other services that we may use all I am trying to do is get the PCs to go off and look for the new website instead of the old one.

 

To me this has to be relatively simple but perhaps I'm not looking in the right place or going about it the wrong way.

 

If anybody has anything to offer on the matter please feel free.

I am not sure what you are trying to achieve...are you trying to adjust the home page that users see when they first load up their browser in your domain?

 

Or are you attempting to redirect a website that you host?

Quick and dirty solution: Replace the code on the old page with this

 

Bit neater solution: Change the DNS entry for the old site to point at the new site

 

Much neater solution: Use 301 redirects

Hello

 

Yes it is the website I am trying to redirect, the home page we see in our browser is all working fine.

 

As far as I can tell the existing website is hosted internally or at least the content management system for it sits on our web server.

 

The new site is being externally hosted so our local authority processed some DNS changes their side allowing the new site to be viewed outside of the school.

 

However inside the school through group policy Internet Explorer is configured to bypass the proxy for our web address, lets say http://www.school.county.sch.uk.

 

If I remove this entry from the bypass proxy settings then we do indeed see the new site but weirdly other systems such as our room booking form stop working.

 

On the DNS server I have a forward lookup zone for school.county.sch.uk and in here is a Host A entry called www which to the best of my knowledge has something to do with all this but I don't know enough to figure out what I should be doing with it.
