Afternoon all,

Sorry if this is posted elsewhere, i have tried searching for the answer but no luck. I have recently opened up a session on SIMS for my reports. All comment banks have been updated, template has been finalised.

Our Biology department have just been to me with a new comment bank (which isn't currently included in my session) because they have decided they don't want to freetext their reports anymore (although all the other subjects do it the normal SIMS comment bank way anyway)

My question is:

If i enter Biology's comments to the relevant comment bank which is linked to my reporting session - will it update the session to include biology comments to be entered by teachers, or will it remain as was when i first opened it? May sound a silly question but i know you can't delete anything once a session is open and i don't want to spend time entering the text if it's pointless at the moment.

Thank you in advance.

No it doesn't work, just typed them all up and tried it. Won't let me attach a course to it as 'comment banks used in active session' so i have had to create another separate section, copy and paste the comments into that and create a new session and attach the biology classes to it. It just means me having to sessions on the go at once, and having to insert each individual biology student into the main batch of reports from a different session :( Edited by Superius2014

Sorry, I misunderstood. For even free text to work, you still need an empty comment bank in your bank, attached to the correct course or nothing will display to teachers. You can copy that section in the new bank you made and paste it in to the old one (linking the course correctly first) though so you shouldn't have to use a second comment bank.

It's probably my rubbish explaining, it lets you insert text, but not delete/move anything which i understand. I totally forgot that when you opened a session you can't then change the attached courses, hence making a new one as i can't attach the biology course to my comment bank

Your old biology one won't show up in list entry as it's not linked to a course. I would rename it Do Not Use, then copy the Biology section in your new separate bank, and paste in to the old one that is in use. As long as the course is correctly attached before you paste you should be ok.

There are lots of threads on this, I will look for one. :)

I have copied it into a seperate one to use for this time. i just thought i could make changes to the current one whilst it was active...then realised i couldnt add the course. so it's okay my question is answered. thank you :)

If you try and copy into your original one it will save you lots of time at printing when you have to merge two separate sessions..

From Capita Forum:

Clone your comment bank, add the course linked correctly (prob have to call it something slightly different or change the name in the original) and copy it back to your existing comment bank. If you search for it in this forum, there is a long thread with lots of advice. I have done it numerous times.
